NS trainee dies hours after being admitted





IPOH: A National Service trainee died yesterday, five days after coming down with fever.
His mother rushed to see him in hospital but he died at the Teluk Intan Hospital before she could get there. Afiq Zuhairi: Was sent to hospital after his condition worsened on Tuesday.

Afiq Zuhairi Ahmat Rozal had been a trainee at the Kem Sentosa Chenderiang.
Che Rosnah Hashim, 52, said she last heard from Afiq, her fifth son, last Friday when he called to inform the family that he had come down with a fever.
“I did not think much of it then as I thought it was just a fever,” she said here yesterday.
“I was shocked when the National Service Training Department called me on Tuesday to inform me that my son had been admitted to Tapah Hospital after his condition worsened.”
Che Rosnah said she and her family then rushed to Tapah Hospital, but her son had been transferred.
“He was transferred to the Teluk Intan Hospital on Tuesday evening, as his condition was unstable,” the housewife said, adding that her son was pronounced dead later that night at 9.30pm.
Che Rosnah said in her last conversation with Afiq Zuhairi, 18, he told her that he had sought treatment from the camp doctor.
Afiq Zuhairi, who joined the camp on March 19, had just obtained his SPM results and was planning to further his studies.
“But now he is gone. I accept it as Allah’s will,” Che Rosnah said.
Afiq Zuhairi was buried in his hometown, Kampung Serdang Permai, Simpang Pulai, here at 3pm yesterday after zohor prayers.
National Service Training Department director-general Datuk Abdul Hadi Awang Kechil said the department was awaiting the post-mortem on the cause of death.
He said Afiq Zuhairi reported at the camp’s medical centre last Friday for fever and was treated by the assistant medical officer.
On Monday, he again reported sick and was treated by the medical assistant and nurse at the camp.
The next day, when his fever persisted, he was sent to the Tapah polyclinic and subsequently admitted to Tapah Hospital at 11am.
The trainee was initially placed in a normal ward. At 3pm, he was referred to the hospital’s intensive care unit before being transferred to Teluk Intan Hospital at 7pm.
He died less than three hours later.
Perak CPO Deputy Comm Datuk Zulkifli Abdullah said the case had been classified as sudden death.

Tapi setahu den kat tempat den di plkn nie, setiap pelatih yang demam memang kami buat IX cth ambil sampel drh untuk FBC dan dihantar di KK berdekatan sebab kami takut insiden mcm ni berlaku.
